Rather difficult to clean a thin foil.

For example, I have seen discussions about using tinfoil 
(OK, aluminum foil) hats as protection against mind 
control (these were not SCA forums).  

I often point out that aluminized mylar shower caps should 
be used instead as they are less likely to tear.

Maybe.  At that time, toothpaste tubes were made of tin.  
You had to return the empty tube to buy a new one.  

At least they didn't make you do a refill.

That depends on the kind of watching you were doing ...

(A) watching to be sure nobody took your food ...
