Right... It _might_ have been used to throw at people in the pillory. Offal and garbage being often used for usch purposes...

Nota bene:
Spoiled meat MIGHT have also been sold as animal food, not necesarily for Human food.

A person who owns pigs, dogs, bears, and several sorts of birds may have uses for spoiled meat that has nothing to do with immediate human consumption. 

Still need proof of human consumption.
Please provide some of the often cited "many examples" of "rescuing" spoiled meat for Human consumption.
