A traditional butt is 476.91 liters, a metric butt is 500 liters, and
an imperial butt is 490.98 liters. Therefore the difference between a
metric butt load and an English (imperial) butt load is 9.02 liters.
Red wine cost 5d per gallon (1438 - 1439), therefore 2.39 gallons (9.02
liters) would be just under 12d.
I don't happen to have a value for the price of wine in 1950.
