There was no message attached to your email, so I don't know what the specific warning was.  I do know that urban legends often invoke the names of credible people and institutions to make them seem more believable.  That's why my first step is usually to check any story at www.snopes.com before forwarding it.

By any chance, was your message about microwaves and plastic?  Because that one has been wrongly attributed to Johns Hopkins:
