sounds familiar.  hostage value is nil in my book.  i let 
them know we are serving onions/pork/whatever in one of 
the courses.  and sweetly tell them there are plenty of 
other nummies to fill up on.  and if they don't like that, 
well... there are other people who will take their spot 
gladly.  of course, i feed 350 at a time. ;)

i do tend to stay away from walnuts, because we do have 
several deathly allergic folks.  as in, if a cookie with 
walnuts touches a cookie without walnuts, they can still 
get sick.

our last queen was allergic/medical reasons to just about 
everything.  and she became queen long after menu for 
midwinter was set and items not only purchased but 
precooked and frozen.  she was very cool about nibbling 
what she could.  as are a number of our 'no pork for 
persona' persons.
