You can whittle a point on the licorice. (laced a gingerbread box)
If anything, you are looking at mostly couching methods.
You could use celery strands as string.
Fruit leather could be cloth. (saw once a fruit leather pouch filled with
gem shape hard candy, 4 string licorices as drawstring)
If you can make hard candy, you can make beads (though it will be a bit
difficult) and jewels.
Weave a cloth of string licorice (if able, cut string in half) and with
needlepoint method using thin strips of fruit leather. (be warned, this can
get sticky especially if you are a warm handed individual)

capitals...  Of course, you'd need a needle with a pretty big eye, or maybe
