Hmmm. I do have a few librarian/search articles in the Florilegium in
the INFO-SOURCES section:
Libry-Research-art (44K) 12/ 3/03 "Historical Research in the Modern
Library"
                                        by Pani Jadwiga Zajaczkowa.
Using-ILL-art (8K) 11/09/03 "Interlibrary Loan" by Aelfwynn of
Whitby
But as far as I know, nothing on handling searches with old alphabets
or the accent marks and such which are found in other languages.
Perhaps there is plenty of info on this on the web already, but if one
of the librarians here would be interested in writing such an article
for the Florilegium, even if it is just an overview and pointers to
these other web resources on searching, I'd love to have it.

It might help some of the folks in the SCA get into doing more
research. Perhaps even I might be able to use it if I can off load
enough of the Florilegium work to try some research. :-)
