If you wanted to make your own homemade marmite, how would you do it?

The ingredients are listed as--UK:

Yeast Extract
Salt
Vegetable Extract
Vitamin: Niacin
Spices
Vitamins: B1, B2, Folic Acid, B12

Marmite is also made under license throughout the world. In New Zealand, the
ingredients are :

Yeast
Sugar
Salt
Wheatgerm Extract
Mineral Salt (508)
Color (Caramel)
Herbs
Spices
Vitamins: Niacin, Thiamin, Riboflavin

**************************************
1) For the yeast, I've heard this should be the yeast and solids at the
bottom of the vat from making dark or at least regular beer. So I am
guessing this starts with a grain or mix of grains. In the NZ version,
wheat is definitely used as one of the items.

2) Salt

3) Vegetable Extract or Herbs--What do you think should be used for good
nutrition and good taste?

4) Any idea from the taste what spices might be in it?

5) Sugar

6) What herbs or foods could be put in it to get high levels of the various
vitamins in it?

********************************************
The earliest use of the yeast solids seems to be bread making. Anyone come
across anything else?
