German has 'heiss' (temperature hot) and 'scharf' (flavour hot - the same word
used for describing blade sharpness). There are also 'würzig' (spicy in
general) and 'pikant' (a French loan word describing spicy/savory as opposed
to sweet). But all of this is more art than science.
