Good evening! I am moderately recovered from the weekend. It was a very short
event for me, but family (sick Mom)...well, I arrived a little about 10:15.

The Tourney was scheduled for one, so I was able to attend a class on Melee
Work and then got to work on setting up. My coworker in charge had already set
up the pavilion, floor cloth, table and cushions, and had kindly provided
platters and serviceware. She also had the makings for the spiced cider stashed in
a cooler.
There was one problem-she had suddenly come down with a horrible, deadly head
cold, and was confined to the bed in the cabin.
No problem
Made the Cider, with only a small spillage -- ground was not as flat as I
thought <G>
started putting out the food.
Battled a yellow jacket for the Hais.
Put out the Hummus and pita chips.
Battled the same yellowjacket.
Put out the Puff Pastry, tried to dust with confectioner's sugar.
Beat sugar out of tablecloth, four floor cushions and a long white streak
down the black skirt I was wearing.
Drew out my knife and threatened that blasted yellow jacket with a duel to
the death.....
Set out the Goat cheese (coated with ground peppercorns)
Remixed the Angel's food
battled the same yellowjacket, who was now joined by his cousin, the honeybee.
set up the Shrewsbury cakes around the angel's food.
Fished gnats out of the angel's food.
Fussed at myself for not bringing any plastic wrap and covered everything
with cloth napkins.
Took a stab at the yellowjacket trying to make off with an olive...(Point
control needs work).

Her Majesty was most gracious and kind. She was most impressed with the foods
and the balance of sweet with protein and salt. (that is totally due to the
advice you all gave me-I cannot thank you enough! You all are the GREATEST!)
She has also requested the recipe for the Hais! She said she can not get hers
to come out as light and flavorful as mine...I am still recovering from the
shock! 8O

So now, I get to go through my notes and see if I can come up with something
coherent. <G>

BTW-His Majesty came in during the Tournament-he was looking for a stop over
between 'teaching Squires' and the Knights' meeting...Hais is now "doughnut
holes" and Shrewsbury cakes are now "Period Snickerdoodles"!

Apparently a good time was had by all-and the remainder of the food soon
disappeared-fencing makes for hot and hungry people. <G>

Helen
PS Sir Robert Hightower tried the Hais-and liked it! I almost danced away
from the Event after that...<G>
