I'm not sure if I'm misreading you (are you saying the bricks didn't 
require straw?), but I remember it as the Jews were required to continue 
making bricks, but the Egyptians would no longer provide the necessary 
straw; they had to hunt down their own.

But yeah, walls and ovens would need more structural integrity/strength 
than a bowl.
