This morning, my roommate, Margali, just turned me onto some diabetic
chocolate that's really tasty, so i thought I'd pass the word on it,
understanding as I do how rough it is on our diabetic friends to give up
chocolate.
It's put out by Elite Confectionary Ltd., Nazareth-Illit, Israel, called
"Repertoire". The sweetener is Maltitol, which in some sensitive folks has a
laxative effect. One of the interesting things about it is that unlike
American dietary chocolates, which are also low fat, this retains the cocoa
butter, so it doesn't have that nasty, waxy texture that is so irritating in
"dietetic" chocolates.
Analysis from the package:
Serv Size 1/2 bar
Calories 190
Fat Calories 130
Amount/serving %DV
Total Fat 14g 22%
Sat. Fat 8.5g 42%
Cholest. 10 mg 3%
Sodium 40 mg 2%
Total Carb. 23g 8%
Dietary Fiber 1g 4%
Sugars 4g
Maltitol 18g
Protein 3g
It's obviously not a reduced calorie food, so it would need to be part of a
balanced diet, but it tastes good enough that I'd be quite willing to eat
some, unlike my usual attitude towards substitute foods.
Hope this might help some of our diabetic friends stay on their diets ;-)
