'Defending' the current system  by describing it as unfair, rediculous & 
resulting in blockheads as crowns  should tell you that a better way can be had, 
if only to avoid that sort of  'defense'. :)

No matter what system you choose, there are going to be aspects to it that  
can be defined as "unfair". The system we have, with it's time limits and other 
 restraints on the Royals at least keeps the most egregious errors from  
compounding themselves.
 
Raising armies is merely going to reduce us to the Society of Banana  
Republics.
