In my case, I have left out the non-veg ingredients for my immediate 
family, who all seem to detest raisins and nuts in salad.  So far, they 
have been pleasantly surprised by the period dressings.  

Greens should be whatever looks good, not whatever is written down in a 
recipe, in any century!
