Oooh, oooh, i just got a good idea! (well, "good" for some definition 
of "good")
How about... Deep-fried peeps?
They might not turn carbon black, but they might become interesting 
colors, if they don't explode in the fryer...

For Easter, Hard-boiled Peeps - already in festive colors...

And since Peeps are shaped like chickens, you could have:
Southern Fried Peeps

Or more exotically:
Peep Kabobs
and
Peep Fajitas (Peep-jitas?)

Or picking up on favorite foods of childhood:
Peeps in a blanket

If you don't want to fill up on them, you could have:
Peeps on the half shell as a starter

For dessert:
Frozen Peepcicles

And you can party hardy with:
Jello Peep Shots
