On June 19, 1999, Kampgrounds of America, Inc. in Rodanthe, North
Carolina set a world record for the "World's Largest S'more",
weighing 788.9 pounds. Naturallya number of other corporations
attempted to outdo this.
On 25 July 2001, The Coleman Company marked its 100th birthday by
creating a new "World's Largest S'more" which weighed more than 1,200
pounds. It was constructed using 4,514 chocolate bars, 10,800
marshmallows and 21,600 graham crackers. It measured 20 feet by 23
feet. The finished treat was served to more than 800 employees during
a commemorative ceremony at company headquarters.
On May 23, 2003, ReserveAmerica, which operates campgrounds,
constructed yet another "World's Largest S'more". It weighed around
1,600 Pounds and was created with 7,000 Hershey's milk chocolate
bars, 20,000 marshmallows and 24,000 graham crackers. According to
the Guiness site, the marshmallows were toasted, although they don't
look that way in the photos. After this, Guinness retired the
"World's Largest S'more" category :-(
The following "World's Largest S'more" measured 1,936-sq feet and was
constructed to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Virginia State
Parks. It was made with 8,000 Hershey's chocolate bars, 40,000
marshmallows and 55,000 graham crackers - nearly double the size of
the previous record holder, though it didn't use quite as much
chocolate. Photos show the marshmallows untoasted, and basically, it
looks like just a whole lot of s'mores, not one giant s'more.
And unlike the Coleman Company s'more, the Virginia "World's Largest
S'more" wasn't even eaten (although i bet some kids sneaked some
Now, to me, if the marshmallows aren't toasted, and the chocolate
isn't melty, it's not a s'more. It's just Hershey's chocolate and a
couple cold marshmallows sandwiched between two graham crackers.
