The discovery of the banana peel in a Tudor midden that is obviously not an 
intrusive artifact, proves that the fruit was there in Tudor times.  It does 
not demonstrate where the fruit came from or that it was eaten.  Prior to 
the find, the earliest known bananas in England date from 1633.  An 
interesting aside is that the archeologist who evaluated the find has begun 
research into the sale of exotic fruit in London.  It will be interesting to 
see what turns up.

Oh, by the way, were those medieval English people who ate bananas in 
England or in the Levant?
