> 1 cup McCann's Steel Cut Oats (available at Publix)

speaking of steel cut oats, i have had a brainstorm this
week (during an intensive xmas cookie baking day thanks to
a day off via snowstorm)...

i used toasted steel cut oats like finely chopped nuts in
my oatmeal/dried berry cookies. WOW! nice crunch for
those with nut allergies. they went over VERY well at the
office during the traditional sacrificial offering of the
xmas cookie tray on the last day of work.

baking done, but now some decorating for the fancy
presents for the husband's business contacts. hey, the
UNM office mice just snatfle them. why decorate? ;)

list: oatmeal and dried berry drop cookies, chocolate
crinkles, jam thumbprints, gingersnaps, honey spritz
cookies, peanut butter cookies, christmas spice cutouts
(mini cutters, dusted in powdered sugar), sugar cookie
cutouts (decorated). i also make a green chili (you read
that right) brown sugar cookie. really tasty with some
heat. the chilies turn out like candied fruit after
baking. just add some finely chopped green chilies to
basic sugar cookie dough, watching the liquid related
consistency, of course. still haven't gotten the nerve
up to try chipotle sugar cookies...

'tis the season
