Artemisia has little "earthshakes" all the time. MOST pass with no real
note besides the blips on the seismograph at Weber State. (Part of my job
as a GeoSci student assistant there was to make sure the thing had ink and
paper).

Some are bigger, but with the disbursed population in this particular area
of the country, again, they are little noted nor long remembered.

Much much speculation swirls regarding the Wasatch Fault, which slips fairly
regularly, the Teton fault that is several hundred thousand years past due
(tardy but not truant), and the swelling Yellowstone Caldera (raising a few
inches a year).

It has been supposed that if the Wasatch goes gunny bag, Salt Lake City, UT
will be severely crippled. It has been bandied about that if the Teton
goes, Jackson Hole, WY will find itself suddenly 24 ft higher or six ft
lower ... I forget which side of the fault they are actually on but either
way is not optimal. It has been predicted that if Yellowstone Caldera goes
... most of Wyoming, parts of Montana, Idaho, Nebraska, and Colorado will
cease to exist (think Pompii). Some experts say that if any one of these
lets go, it could trigger the rest for a cataclysm of Jurassic proportions.
It is EXTREMELY UNLIKELY that any of these will happen in our lifetime,
but it makes for really good television.

Aldo Leopold said something like "If you pull on one strand, you will
quickly find out that it is ultimately connected to the entire universe”,
or something like that.

I am not a big fan of 'push here and see what it does' when what it does can
trigger something like a 8.4 earthquake.

Tuppence only

Cheers

Jo

(Malkin would have NO idea what any of this is all about)
