Not wanting to wade into the tomato debate, but, for my 2 cent's worth,
I think Da has hit it on the head with the idea about finding out when
the term "medieval" ends for them.  I have seen it applied from
everything including the time period we think it means (roughly 1000 -
1400 ish), through the Age of Enlightenment and up through the 19th
century.
