<snip much funniness from Cailte)

My cousin Stephen had for a little while a Swedish girl named Inga as a girlfriend. She was blonde, but tiny and petite and with little in the chest department. Grandma loved Inga because Inga was actually her height.

Anyway, Stephen brought Inga for a Sunday dinner. After the salad came whole stuffed artichokes. Inga gazed at her plate in confusion, as she had never eaten one of these before, and had no idea of how to do so. Grandma, who we had told to sit down and enjoy her own food, as she had been buzzing back and forth getting drinks for the grandkids, buzzed over to Inga's place, which got Stephen frustrated.

"Grandma, sit down!" he said.

Grandma ignored him and started to lecture Inga on artichoke eating. Her hands zoomed toward Inga's plate, spurring more cries from Stephen.

"Grandma, sit down!" he yelled. "C'mon Grandma, sit down! Grandma, get your fingers out of my girlfriend's artichoke!"

Cousin Laura and I laughed so hard, we choked.

"Carciofi," artichoke in Italian, happens to be a slang term of endearment for a woman ... and also a term for her "parts."

I think Stephen and Inga broke up shortly after that.
