For a collector like you, probably e-Bay isn't a good place, but
for a beginner, I have seen a lot of good books up for auction there.
King's/Queen's Taste is currently there, Dining with William Shakespeare,
Pleyn Delit, 1000 Eggs, Savouring the Past, and a whole lot more.
The best way is to go to the cookbook section and then search using
"renaissance", "medieval", "middle ages", "Elizabethan" in the title
and the body of the ads. Not all at the same time, but individually.
I have been finding interesting British and Aussie books
on the history of cooking there and have purchased a few here and
there.

Rather that search each used book website, I use:

http://www.usedbooksearch.co.uk/

which searchs both British and US used book websites.
Amongst the 12 websites are Alibris, Abebooks, and Powells.

Remember that while money talks, chocolate sings.
