Interesting! Thanks! (and to Johnnae as well!) As first I thought it might have been a typo for Rum, but figured it was too early for rum.

Reminds me to read 'Guns Germs & Steel'

Anyone read 'A History of the World in Six Glasses'? It's about the history and effect of beer, wine, liquor, coffee, tea and coca-cola.

Republican agenda: Crush the middle class into poverty, rape the environment, enrich corporations, restore slavery, install a theocratic dictatorship. Fight back!

Run is one of the Banda Islands, which in turn are part of the Moluccan
Islands administered by the Indonesian province of Muluka. As the only
source of nutmeg and mace, the Banda Islands were an economic treasure trove
fought over by Moslems, Portuguese, English and Dutch. In the late 18th
Century, nutmeg cultivation began in the Caribbean (a speculative tale of
greed and larceny in itself), and the economic importance of the Bandas
declined.
