Hmm, I just checked and today the problem is minor (2004 68 reindeer
out of 52407 butchered was destroyed due to excess cesium). During ythe
first years post-Chernobyl thousands of reindeer was destroyed, but
during the last 10 years comparibly few has contained too much cesium.

Not that I can recall, but I can very well have missed/forgotten it. I
saw a brief mention of compensation on the web, but not in a source I
would trust to any significant degree.

Interestingly cesium enters the reindeer mainly when they are eating
lichen, and is excreted with the urine and feces, and the levels thus
vary over the year (high in winter, low in summer).
