A-HEM! You're missing the point here, people. Let's return to the
original source of the recipe, which is a poem by Virgil, describing how
a Roman farmer prepares his morning meal.

He's a poor man, who lives a simple life. His larder has no smoked meat
hanging in it, only a large cheese. Over and over, Virgil inserts
details to emphasise that this is an uncouth backcountry fellow . His
garment is a hairy goatskin, and he sings "country ditties" while he
grinds grain for his flatbread, or talks to himself in "rustic speech".
Naturally, rue is one of the herbs in this recipe. After all, it's
breakfast for a rube.
