I don't really have a problem with "merchants" as a catch-all term, but
if there's a specific name I can use (tailor, baker, etc.), I use it. A
book-seller is probably best called a book-seller :-), but I don't know
what the best term for a fabric-seller would be. Maybe just
wool-merchant or linen-trader.
