[Sca-cooks] OOP - Cake Recipe Request?

A friend of mine is looking for a yellow cake recipe that is ... more toward
the heavier, denser side (in other words, NOT light and fluffy). I
suggested pound cake, but that was a little heavier and denser than she
wanted.

So ... does anyone have a cake recipe that might fit the bill? Or even just
tips on how one might be able to tell when looking at a recipe in, say, Joy
of Cooking, whether a cake will turn out light and fluffy or heavier and
denser? It's needed for a mundane birthday party this Sunday.

Many thanks, and sorry for the distraction from the discussion at hand!

If you can get your hands on a copy of "The Best Recipe" put out by Cook's
Illustrated, their yellow cake is what I think of when reading your post.
It is somewhere between the sponfy yellow cake mixes and the leaden pound
cakes.
