I'm well aware of that, Huette. Please keep in mind that I've known Hroar for
quite a few years, and often send him recipes that will give him tasty
munchies, while avoiding most of his dietary difficulties.
However, I don't think we can consider Hroar a "typical" diabetic,
considering how many things he needs to avoid eating. Many different foods
have strange effects on him, and while coffee may spike his caffeine, that
does not necessarily mean it would spike another diabetics caffeine.
However, out of curiosity, I have posted a question to Chirurgeon's List,
just to see what MIGHT cause this specific reaction. IIRC, he's type II,
which means that his body produces insulin, but doesn't use it effectively
(or doesn't produce enough) and it could very well be that a substance among
many of the organic compounds in coffee either depresses his natural insulin
production, or has other effects that cause the apparent spike.
