Well, the big plan was that my daughter and I were going to make a
really GOOD Thanksgiving dinner. To *&$% with "tradition". We wanted
delicious. I collected many recipes, sorted through them and made a
selection.
Alas, my brother decided to take his family to Washington DC over
Thanksgiving. And he didn't let me know until i phoned him to ask if
his family had particular likes or dislikes.
Then my daughter - who I was very excited to get to see, plus she's a
great cook, so cooking with her is FUN! - called to saw that she was
overloaded with grad school work and job foo, so she wouldn't be able
to make it. She'll be coming for a week around Christmas.
So i cancelled - no sense driving down to San Diego for Thanksgiving
with my Mom - since her sense of smell has departed she only tastes
sweet, salty, sour, and bitter - my daughter and i will visit her
after Christmas.
And my consort always goes to his mother's in SoCal for Thanksgiving.
So, i'll just sit here alone in the cold and dark. Sniff.
I'm baking a pumpkin-pecan pie and 3 small sweet potatoes in their
skins (so i'll have some for later). I got some beautiful mixed salad
greens (mesclun?) with fresh flowers in it from a local Farmers'
Market. I got some nice green beans and mushrooms for two different
vegetable dishes. And for reasons even i don't understand, i got a
Tofurkey - because Now & Zen Bakery, which made a better version,
appears to be having some serious business trouble. I'm crossing my
fingers that they've improved the quality since i reviewed Tofurkey
for this list 6 years ago.
I'm gonna watch the Macy's Parade on TV bright (or cloudy) and early
in the morning - something i haven't done in decades - while the food
is baking, and i plan to eat my "dinner" around lunch time.
I also finally gave in and bought a DVD player - and after my dinner,
i'm gonna watch a DVD of "Bubba-Hotep".
