Whereas I have always considered them something along the line of "Slim  
Jims", a dried meat product.  I think this is supported by the use of them  to 
feed fire lizards which, along with dragons, seem to be completely  carnivorous.  
Somehow my impression is that feeding a grain product to a  fire lizard would 
result in a very upset stomach...
