Well, yes, I realize that. I just made out like something of a foodie
bandit, which caught me a little unexpectedly.

Gifts we gave included a set of Scandinavian rosette irons, a set of
little non-stick petit-four sized cheesecake molds, homemade Szechuan
chili paste, Creole and Lombard mustards, John Thorne's new book, and
in one case a huge covered roasting pan which was so massively marked
down (I think from over $100 to about $25), that even though I hate to
give gifts that even look like housework, we had to make an exception
on this one.

Funny, I had heard a long report on the radio news this morning which
stated that food gifts are very much in vogue this year, both because
they can be given over and over again, but also because they're
relatively easy to order and have delivered, and they're items a lot
of people wouldn't go and buy for themselves. They were talking about
things like Omaha Steaks and Harry and David fruit, stuff like that. I
don't think they meant John Thorne books, chili paste or truffles...

Got some of those, too ;-). And the new Fergus Henderson Nose To Tail
book...

<sniffle>. All true. And then, they don't mind inviting themselves
over for dinner now and then, either ;-).
