may I add: " . . .method of polishing diamonds was first discovered in
1456, by Louis Berquen, a citizen of Bruges
<http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/cgi-bin/vor?type=phrase&alts=0&group=typecat&lookup=Bruges&collection=Perseus:collection:Greco-Roman>,
previous to which time the diamond was only known in its native uncut
state."

As I die in 1474, jade is not in my book. Hate to break someone's
bubble but "ijada" is "loin" in English. Apart from that it is
perfectly logical to me that stones were used to protect against
specific organs of the body, humors, elements etc.

I disagree as long as you have banquets, eat with your hands and
wear rings on the baby and ring fingers. The point of the matter is that
I want to know what stones worked against what "evils". Coral, for
instance, was set in a ring worn on the ring or baby finger of the right
hand to intercept dangerous rays of light that could lead to poisoning
when eating. It also protected one against the stare of the Evil Eye!
Now why were two stones worn? - Because one protected against light
poisoning and the other protected against something else. What? is the
never ending question!

Sure, I think I am on to something here.
