There was a conversation on the list not so long ago
about a source for rabbits. When
I came across this article in the Chicago Tribune yesterday,
I just knew that everyone on the list would appreciate this story.

Big bunny in every North Korean pot?

German breeder's whoppers eyed by food-deprived nation
Few people raise bigger rabbits than Karl Szmolinsky, who has been
producing long-eared whoppers since 1964.
His favorite breed, German gray giants, is the size of a full-grown
beagle and so fat it can barely hop.

The New York Post story is even better.

LET 'EM EAT BUGS CRAZED KIM'S GIANT RABBITS

February 3, 2007 -- North Korea's wacko dictator Kim Jong Il is
promising his starving people a giant bunny in every pot.

This one has an illustration that resembles Harvey.

Big bunny makes headlines 'round the world

If your eyes wandered over to Page 3 in Tuesday's paper, you probably
saw a 23-pound German rabbit named Robert. We know. You probably said,
"Right, another photo of a 23-pound German rabbit named Robert. What's
with the Post-Gazette?" But this one was different, and not just because
it won, hands down, the Unsettling Animal Picture of the Week award. It
had geopolitical implications. In case you missed it, Robert was being
held vertically by the scruff of his neck, revealing the sort of full
frontal nudity this paper is not known for. The photo, which went around
the world, made Robert look like he was 4-foot-8, with his head alone
weighing 23 pounds. This set off paranoid speculation on the Internet
that it had been doctored, but it was perfectly legit.
