Don't buy it from the grocery store if you can avoid it. You can get  
much better saffron at much better prices from some of the mail-order  
places.

I buy my saffron, which is a very, deep, rich red from the Pepperer's  
Guild. There prices are much better as well. I'm afraid I don't  
remember though what I paid, off the top of my head. I buy some  
saffron from them each year I am at Pennsic, but they also fill mail  
orders, but since they are a non-profit volunteer group I've heard it  
can take them a while to get an order shipped out to you.

(Very P.O.ed. Ordered a new digital camera 9 days ago for Gulf Wars  
off the web (YellowBeePhoto.com) and it took them until today for  
them to email me and say that it is 'back-ordered'. Now it is too
