A good friend of mine's mother had this problem. Her husband still got
up every morning and then proceeded to micromanage her day because he
was bored.

About a week after he retired he showed up bright and early back at
work, he would go into his old empty office and read the paper for an
hour and a half then wander around and chat with people.

Why?

His wife kicked him out when he got up in the morning and told him:
"I married you for better or for worse, but not before lunch"
