Being 1/2 native American I can understand where you are coming from
(Yes the other 1/2 is sicillian). My wife will leave the house when I
need to eat raw lol. Nothing like Steak Tartar in a blood and wine
sauce. The way I was raised is one would drink blood from the kill. I
still do this to this day. I also bury the heart and brain in respect of
the kill and its spirit.

Some of my history goes back to Blackfoot Lakota Souix and through my
one 
uncle that I went hunting with, pretty much from toddler-hood, I have a 
strong liking for raw meat and liver and fish.  I finally broke the
habit of 
eating bits of the fresh kill when I started hunting with my ex who used
to 
get so very upset that I would do that.  Irishmen...wimps.  I still like
it 
though and will partake whenever possible.  Raw beef with salt, yum!
