I just finished reading The Last Chinese Chef, by Nicole Mones (ISBN 978-0-618-61966-5) $24. It's about a woman who goes to China to get a bio-sample from a child, in order to discover if the girl is the offspring of her (recently deceased) husband. During her trip, she meets and falls in love with a Chinese-American chef, descendant of many great Chinese chefs.? The book is FULL of discussion of Chinese food, the important features of food like texture, the qualities of great dishes, historical cooking... No recipes (no surprise, since they seem to emphasize the spontaneous alteration of recipes...) but it's a very pleasant light read. You'll get very hungry reading it, though.
