I was always curious about the "death after falling down the stairs"
happening with an absurd level of frequency until I was on Savannah's
River Street. The "Flights" of stone stairs to descend to the River
Level are insanely steep, the stairs are very shallow and the risers
are very, very tall.

Imagining the "Southern Belle" with her hoop skirt trying to descend
makes the snapped neck all the more realistic.
