We usually go to a party at a friend's house...it's a lovely Queen Anne
Victorian house in a historical section of a town near Baltimore. We
usually stay overnight and continue the party the next morning. The food
varies from year to year as it is pot-luck...this year, Phillip is making a
basil-tomato dip kind of thing:

Basil Tomato Spread

12 slices provolone cheese (may need 14 slices)
12 ounces cream cheese
8 ounces shredded Mozzarella cheese
8 ounces Pesto sauce
8 ounces sun-dried tomatoes, oil-packed (may need 10 oz.)
1/4 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
garlic powder, basil and pepper to taste

1. Line a tray with plastic wrap. Spray lightly with cooking spray.
Overlap provolone to cover sides and bottom of pan.

2. Blend remaining ingredients in a food processor.

3. Spoon into prepared pan. Use remaining provolone to cover,
overlapping slices.

4. Cover with plastic wrp and refrigerate until firm (4 hours approx.).

5. To serve, turn out onto plate and garnish with basil and chopped
sundred tomatoes. Serve with crackers.

We got the recipe from my sister-in-law last Christmas...it's really quite
good. I won't be making anything this year because I'm recovering from my
knee surgery yesterday.

At midnight, we drink champagne, then dance the Time Warp (Rocky Horror
Picture Show).

New Year's morning, one of the guys in the group makes absolutely wonderful
waffles...has a couple of antique waffle irons...and uses cake flour rather
than regular flour. And we have real maple syrup. So good!!

We've been doing this for close to 25 years, and it's a wonderful tradition
to be with friends who are like family to greet the New Year.
