Last year the midwest was victim of more than three months of relentless
rains, first hitting just as the winter wheat crop was ripening. It was
reported this morning that last year, for the first time in memory, hay beat
out wheat as Oklahoma's number one cash crop.

The biofuel thing is affecting the production and price of corn (maize, that
is) more that wheat, though there has been some shift of land use from the
latter to the former as a result of the biofuel legislation.
