Yes it is, it's a reasonably common abbreviation. And that's a better
way of spelling exactly how it sounds than what I wrote. :-)

In general, yes, you don't much get the rolling "r" of Scotland or the
European continent in British speech.

I've also heard that condiment referred to simply as Worcester ("Wooh-
stah", with the "oo" as in "book") Sauce.
