I have a goatee story about coffee. Want to to hear it? It ends with 
someone toasting them.
In Spain one summer I stayed at a penny pincher, non-cooking woman's 
house when her staff walked out on her for a bit. She told me to throw 
the toasted beans into water and boil the water. It worked but not being 
a coffee lover I found it so horrible I looked for a peculator. No luck 
although I did find a mortar and pestle.
I slipped off to the grocer's and bought Nescafe.
