Decatur Illinois was the home of Staley's which processed corn and
soybeans into various
food products. On certain days a distinctive stench hung over the city.
I can well remember
gagging up at times and rolling up the windows until we were well past
the plant. Likewise Kraft's processing
plant in west Champaign has certain days when one doesn't want to
breathe the flumes.

Trivia fact-- The Staley company helped found a football league in 1920.
The members of his team,
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_Bears>worked as semi-professionals
in his factory.
This team went onto become the Chicago Bears.
