Around here (Northshield), the only paid feast ticket is a pre-paid 
reservation. Several years ago I had the event steward for my Twelfth 
Night feast come to me very contrite with the news that she accidentally 
miscounted and pretty pretty please would it be possible to fit an extra 
person in the feast? That's pretty much how it's done--X number of seats, 
advance payment required. Sometimes a feast won't sell out, in which case 
those seats will be available at gate, but that doesn't happen often.
