They may or may not. While the Papazian books are accessible in the  
literal sense as well as language and cost, they may or may not tell  
you what you need to know about this particular process. I'd say there  
are a lot of books on this subject published in the UK, where country  
wines and the Real Ale movement are a lot older than the widespread  
American interest in home brewing. I've actually got a couple of them  
stashed away someplace, from the dim dark days of being in the SCA  
before Charlie Papazian.

My all time favorite brewing book is Clive La Pensee's "A Historical  
Companion to House-Brewing", but it's really not a beginner's primer.
