when i was a kid (late 50s, early 60s), my hungarian 
aunties used to say three hail mary's (english) to boil an 
egg.  but i can't remember hard or soft.  but they were 
constant in it, hardly ever used an egg timer, tho there 
was always one on the top of the stove.
