Please excuse me as I am not at all that knowledgeable of root vegetables 
but I thought that turnips were rather more bulbous, ie less longated and 
more rounded tha the white examples shown.   Is that true in the present and 
if so perhaps also in the past?  Could some of the white examples be 
parsnips?
