How much do you want to spend?
Do you want a few major books or many books?
Things from Amazon? Are you interested in a subject
like confections or baking? Can you choose a country or time period?
What sort of collection do you already own?
You might want to start with things like McGee's On Food and Cooking
and C. Anne Wilson's Food and Drink of Britain.
