'Cooking for Power' is a little like 'speaking truth to power'.  Being able
to do what needs doing, regardless of personal cost.  Working for powerful
people in a service capacity is a very interesting mix of being exacting and
being subordinate.  No Prima Donnas need apply, but someone without a
backbone will never do either.  "Vatel" was such a great movie for this, it
really captured the personality required for such an enormous job.  He was
prepared to sacrifice anything and everything to his employer, including his
pet birds that he loved.  On the other hand, he would not accept any poor
ingredients or shoddy workmanship from his subordinates.  He worked as
tirelessly as he expected his people to do.  
We often discuss the ability to 'speak truth to power' when looking for
someone in a leadership capacity.  A "yes man" will only tell their
superiors what they think they want to hear, whereas speaking unpleasant
truths takes a lot of courage.  Being able to back it up with personal
convictions and actions is another large part of it.
