I don't know but my info is:

Castilian ounces, i.e., avoirdupois ounces are sixteen ounces which are 
equal to 1 lb while 12 apothecary ozs are equal 1 lb. These were used to 
measure spices. See ES: Carroll-Mann. _Guisados 2-art_. Jun 6, 01:ftn
